Meet our 2024 Winter Ball Mascot, Dixie!
Dixie came to Massachusetts in 2017 after she was found with a litter of puppies living in the woods in Georgia. When we welcomed her into our home, she was terrified of everything and everyone, but after being a foster sister to over 50 dogs (and a few kittens) she is a happy, confident dog who always has a smile on her (scarred but beautiful) face. She loves strolling along Stacy Boulevard in Gloucester and being told how pretty she is by smiling strangers, something we didn't imagine was possible when we first took her home. When the pandemic began in 2020 Cape Ann Animal Aid, like many animal shelter organizations, had to rely on a network of volunteers to provide foster homes for rescues. It has been an amazing, rewarding experience fostering for CAAA, but to see how Dixie has thrived by being the big sister to the fosters, showing them that a home doesn't have to be a scary place, that they won't go hungry, that there is a warm couch to sleep on is one of the best parts.
